The Punjab Transport Department is set to revolutionize Lahore’s public transport system with the launch of its first fleet of Lahore electric buses. Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi announced that 27 eco-friendly buses arrived at Karachi Port on January 15, 2025, six days earlier than planned.
Imported from China for a Greener Future
China supplied these cutting-edge electric buses, which will reach Lahore on January 21. After a special unveiling ceremony, the authorities will launch operations on January 31, 2025, offering commuters a cleaner and more efficient transport option.
Electric Bus Routes in Lahore
In the initial phase, the electric buses will operate on two key routes:
- Canal Road to RA Bazaar
- Railway Station to RA Bazaar

Investment in Sustainable Urban Transport
Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi emphasized that these buses represent a significant move toward sustainability. The government allocated Rs. 2.46 billion to the project, with each bus costing Rs. 88 million and offering a 12-year lifespan. This investment ensures long-term environmental and operational benefits for Lahore’s residents.
Provincial Minister to Oversee Smooth Rollout
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will supervise the receipt of the buses at Karachi Port. Meanwhile, the Transport Department is actively completing preparations to ensure Lahore electric buses hit Lahore’s roads seamlessly.
