Modernize Urban Development Authorities

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a major reform initiative to modernize Urban Areas Development Authorities (UADAs) and Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) across the province. This strategic move aims to enhance financial stability and operational efficiency, ensuring better urban management.

Government Meeting Highlights Key Reforms

During a high-level meeting of the Local Government Department, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, officials presented a detailed report on the challenges faced by UADAs and TMAs. They also proposed actionable solutions to boost their performance and financial independence.

Implementation of Global Best Practices

To bring municipal management in line with international standards, the government plans to implement the COSO Enterprise Risk Management Framework and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) in all TMAs and UADAs by June this year. These measures will enhance financial discipline, improve transparency, and streamline governance.

Kohat’s Success Story as a Model for Reform

A key inspiration for this initiative comes from the successful financial turnaround of Urban Area Development Authority (UADA) Kohat. Previously burdened with an annual deficit of Rs 49 million, the authority is now projected to achieve a surplus of Rs 25.7 million after adopting new policies.

Chief Minister’s Directive for Sustainable Growth

Chief Minister Gandapur has instructed officials to replicate the Kohat model across all urban development authorities. He stressed the need for self-sufficiency, efficient resource management, and improved service delivery to ensure sustainable urban growth.

By modernizing municipal administrations, the KP government aims to create a more effective and financially independent urban infrastructure system, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents.
