Introduction

The Sindh government has announced the inauguration of the Malir Expressway’s first segment on January 11.

Key Features of the First Segment

This 9.1-kilometer section stretches from Korangi Causeway to Shah Faisal, significantly enhancing connectivity in Karachi.
The segment aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve access to key residential and commercial zones.

Overview of the Malir Expressway

The Malir Expressway spans 40 kilometers, connecting Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) to the M-9 Motorway near Kathore.
It features a three-lane, dual-carriageway design with access-controlled facilities for streamlined connectivity.

Infrastructure Highlights

Dedicated interchanges and ramps ensure efficient traffic flow along the expressway.
A Korangi flyover, set for completion in two months, will further enhance connectivity.

Ongoing Construction Efforts

Current projects include the Jam Sadiq Interchange and road rehabilitation at EBM and Shah Faisal interchanges.
Encroachments at the Quaidabad Interchange have been removed to facilitate smooth traffic movement.

Toll Plaza and Fee Structure

A toll plaza will manage traffic, with a PKR 100 fee for cars and jeeps and PKR 200 for heavy vehicles.
Security measures include regular patrols by traffic police, fire brigades, and Rescue 1122 ambulances.

Traffic Regulations

The stretch from Shah Faisal Interchange to Shah Faisal Colony Bridge is now a no-parking zone.
Only commercial vehicles, cars, jeeps, and buses are permitted, while motorcycles and rickshaws are restricted.

Traffic Management

Law enforcement and traffic police will regulate entry and exit points to ensure uninterrupted flow.
